APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Prior to completing your application, you should meet with the Campus Representative at your college.
  • Complete the 2010 Jeannette K. Watson application materials.
  • Make sure that your name appears on all parts of the application and especially on those parts of the application that are being completed by other individuals.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required. You should give paper copies of the recommendation forms to your recommenders as soon as possible. Be sure to indicate on the recommendation form the due date of your campus. At least one of the letters must come from a faculty member who knows you well. A second letter may come from a supervisor who is familiar with you in some kind of work or activity, whether a job, a volunteer assignment, or a project you have undertaken that demonstrates your strengths in creativity or leadership. You should not ask a member of your immediate or extended family to write on your behalf.
  • Letters of recommendation must be sent directly by the writers to the Campus Representatives. You should provide your writers with stamped envelopes addressed to your Campus Representative.
  • Return your completed application materials by email to your Campus Representative by the campus deadline. Please consult the Watson Campus Representative at your college to find out the application deadline on your campus. Most applications are due in February, but each college sets its own due date.
  • On the basis of the campus nomination process, each of the twelve participating colleges may nominate up to four candidates to be considered by the Citywide Selection Panel.
  • The Citywide Selection Panel will interview finalists and choose fifteen Jeannette K. Watson Fellows at the end of March 2010. The Fellowship begins with internships in the summer immediately following appointment and requires a full-time commitment on the part of the Fellow. The 2010 summer will begin with a three-day orientation June 3 to 5, 2010. Internships, seminars, and cultural events will extend through August 6, 2010. The Fellowship may not be deferred.
